Brain Breathing Exercise

As explained previously by Dr. Ilchi Lee, we have a system of meridians, the pathways along which energy travels throughout our body. Acupuncture points are the gates or openings through which energy enters and exits. The top of the head is the location of the point called the Baek-hwe, which means, directly translated, “the point of interchange of one hundred meridians of the body.” When you concentrate on the Baek-hwe point, along with the natural rhythm of your breathing, you can feel a palpable sensation of energy coming in through the top of your head. The process of using the energy coming in through the Baek-hwe to cleanse the brain is called Brain Breathing. After this exercise, you will notice that your brain feels lighter and fresher.

Once you get used to the practice of breathing in Yoga Exercise with your Baek-hwe and breathing out through your mouth, you can practice the same exercise using other Kywig Hyul points of the body, such as your temples (Tae-yang) or your Sixth Chakra (In-dang). You can imagine energy coming in through these points while stagnant energy goes out through your mouth.

Brain Breathing is an exercise designed to maximize the naturally occurring exchange of energy by using the power of your imagination. The livelier your imagination, the more effective this exercise will be.
