Research recently published in the journal Studies in Physical Culture and Tourism explored the effects of regular yogic exercise and swimming on the body mass indices of aging women, all of whom were at least 60 years old.
The report found that taking one hour of yoga exercises twice a week helped mature women improve their muscle tone and flexibility while stabilizing their body weight.
A similar investigation, which appears in the journal Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, noted that yoga practitioners who are around the age of 70 were able to increase the range of motion in their shoulder joints.
Likewise, the study found that regularly practicing yoga appeared to improve the participants' quality of life and their ability to take care of themselves.
Individuals of all ages report having experienced significant improvements in their energy flow and mental calm after engaging in a little meditation, tai chi and self-exploratory relaxation techniques.
