Practicing yoga outdoors is a great way to stay fit and relaxed while enjoying your bond to the world around you. Perhaps in this spirit of good health and interconnectedness, yoga practitioners in Worthington, Minnesota are planning on doing yoga outside on this year's summer solstice.

According to the town's newspaper, the Daily Globe, two yoga teachers will take dozens of enthusiasts to Sailboard Beach on Okabena Lake on that day, where they will meditate, pose, breathe deeply and work on their flexibility and range of motion.

The solstice, which is the longest day of the year, falls on June 21 this year, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. Many people in North America consider this the beginning of summer.

To celebrate the passing of one season into another, the instructors hope to get people out in nature and in a group, where they can celebrate the gradual turning of the wheel of time through mindfulness and inner peace.

"It's a great way to usher in the summer. I know how difficult it can be to take an hour out of a day and do something just for yourself, but it's the longest day of the year," said yoga teacher and event co-organizer Margaret Vosburgh.
