ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS

This one will take a little time to master, so be patient! Try working on it while waiting in line or sitting in a waiting room as a way to develop your brain while passing the time.

Practice making the rock, paper, and scissors signs from the old decision-making game. Rock is a closed fist; paper is the hand flat, palm to the ground; scissors are two fingers extended. Practice with each hand until the motions feel natural.  Now make signs writh both hands, showing the sign that cancels the right hand on the left hand.

Body Balance Exercises

Since equilibrium is a brain skill that can decline quickly with age, it is important to practice these kinds of balancing exercises. If you deliberately work on your sense of balance, you can do a lot to slow, or even reverse, an age-related decline in equilibrium.

TRIUMPHANT TREE

To help keep vour balance, focus just below your navel, inside your lower abdomen. This is the center point of your body, and thus is your center of gravity Stand with your feet together and your palms in the prayer position. Slowly bring one foot up, placing the sole of your foot as high as you can on the inner thigh. Push your knee out to the side. (If this is difficult at first, place the foot lower on the leg.) Hold for 10 counts and then switch sides.

Alternating finger count

This exercise increases brain quickness and is also a good stretching exercise for the fingers and hands.

ALTERNATING-FINGER COUNT
This exercise increases brain quickness and is also a good stretching exercise for the fingers and hands.

Hold out your hands in front of your chest with your fingers extended. Fold down your thumb on the right hand while leaving your left thumb fully extended. ® Now also fold down the index finger and thumb on the right hand and the thumb on the left hand.

Continue to fold down one finger at a time till they are all folded down. Then start again, counting backward, and repeat 4 or 5 times.

TAP AND SWEEP - THUMB AND PINKIE

This is a little like the old children’s game of patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time.

Tap your right fist on your right chest while your left hand sweeps up and down on the left side.

Now switch sides, so that your right hand is sweeping and your left fist is tapping. See how fast you can switch back and forth.

Follow this movement with your eyes for a good eye workout and a fun challenge for the brain.

Make your hands into fists and extend your arms out in front of your chest. Look at your fingers.

Point your left thumb and right pinkie to the left. Now point your right thumb and left pinkie to the right.

Brain Balance Exercises

These exercises call on both sides of the brain to work together. Our tendency at all ages is to favor one side of the body, which neglects the use of one side of the brain. These exercises will challenge you to use the non-dominant side of your brain. Through them, you will develop new neurological connections that can be used for other mental tasks, such as memory recall and the learning process.

TRIANGLE CIRCLE SQUARE

When doing two tasks simultaneously, you challenge various parts of vour brain to work together.

In the air, draw a circle with your left hand and a triangle with your right, drawing the shapes continuously with both hands at the same time.

Next, switch hands—draw- a triangle with your left hand and draw a reverse circle with your right.

Alternate hands and repeat the above. When you become proficient at drawing a circle and triangle, try drawing a square and triangle.

Possible Relationship between Brain Respiration and Enhancement of Rcademic Rchieuement Indicators

Dahn Hak practice guide by Ilchi Lee

It has been demonstrated that Brain Respiration enhances a student’s memory, intuition, and EQ (Emotional Quotient), enhancing academic ability and performance. An 8-week study of 282 elementary and junior high school children, demonstrated that the group practicing Brain Respiration showed significantly higher scores in tests designed to measure memory, intuition, and EQ than did the control group. The average difference in EQ was 3.8%, in memory was 16.6%, and in intuition was 94.5%.

Research on the Effects of Brain Respiration on the Decrease of Stress Hormones

This study of Ilchi Lee examined the effects of the Brain Respiration (BR) on stress hormone secretion in the human body by means of an experiment. For this purpose, a group of fourteen people (six males and eight females ranging in age from 23 to 60) were chosen as the experimental group and received BR training for one hour. The blood levels of such hormones as cortisol, /?-endorphin, and catecholamine were checked four separate times before and after the training. The results showed that the blood levels of the majority of these stress hormones decreased markedly (p<0.05).

Especially significant was the blood level of cortisol, which was drastically reduced (p<0.01). The blood level of/3-endorphin and epinephrine increased slightly, but those of cortical and nor epinephrine remained unchanged or decreased. The result of this experiment indicates that the BR is more effective than the existing Ki-practice methods and TM.

BR and DahnYoga can also change the neuro-physiological function of the human body by exerting influence on the pituitary gland and the adrenal cortex, which are directly related to the production of stress hormones. Consequently, the above results provide evidence that BR can be a powerful tool to relax the physical and mental tensions of our often-stressful modern existence.

The Key to Peace, the Human Brain

Human beings are ultimately the key to world peace. As Dr Ilchi Lee writes in book about Dahn Hak the brain controls human beings and determines the value of human life and peace. Information is what controls the brain. The brain feeds on information .is it observes, analyzes, judges, and commands, generating more information in its turn. The brain even needs information to see. If you did not have information about what flowers look like, do you think you would “see” one even if you were looking right at one? How can you know the sound of a bird if your brain contains no information about what a bird sounds like? Therefore, the worth of a brain depends on the quantity and quality of information it contains. You can determine how good a brain is by the type of information it generates.

We sometimes confuse the level of our awareness with the level of our intellect. Just because a person can easily understand obtuse or difficult material does not mean that he has a high level of consciousness or awareness. A brain that possesses a high level of awareness is one that can produce bright, healthy, and positive information. No matter how high the IQ might be, if a brain produces information that induces negativity and darkness in others, his brain is dark. When bright brains gather to produce bright information, a healthy society will form.

The brain is a blank slate when we are born. Then it forms a shell of preconceptions and prejudices. The shell eventually grows thick enough to hide our true nature, our soul, from the world, creating an identity llial is nol our line sell, but a false self. Since the false self is a fabrication, il cannot he complete or perfect, leading always to self-doubt ami anxiety. It is dependent on the equally imperfect informal ion provided by government and religion. A brain inside the shell of a false self can no longer hear the voice of the true sell, as il acts in the selfish interest of the false self. Such a brain produces dark and negative information, ultimately contributing to the demise of the self and its surroundings.

When you become the master of your own brain by awakening to your soul, you can use your brain to its fullest capacity, and become the master of your own life. Yon will be able to select the information that goes into your brain, protect your brain from harmful or negative information, and generate information that will heal yourself and your neighbors and affect society positively. A spiritually awakened brain is a Power Brain, capable of listening to the divinity within, living according to the conscience of the soul, and producing positive information that will brighten the world and heal society. This kind of brain holds the key to peace. This brain will be our most powerful tool for peace.

Comprehensively Examine Brains

Unless we awaken to our identity as spiritual beings, we will always let information received from others rule our brain and thereby, our thoughts and actions. We will allow political ideologies, religious dogma, and cultural precoiueplions to determine who we think we are. This is like leaving your computer on, and having someone else come in and program it without your permission.

It is now time for you to reclaim your brain. In Yoga training you must be able to clearly see what types of information reside in your brain and with what effect. Then ask yourself whether this is what you want. Do you want to do the work of peace? 1 )o you want to heal, or do you want to kill? Then, is the information inside your brain appropriate for the work you want to do? If not, who put that information inside your brain for what purpose? What is making you think others could be your enemy?

The time has come for us to comprehensively examine our brains and do a spring-cleaning, if we must. We have an inherent right to do housekeeping on our own house. Let us chase the false masters away, reclaim our own power. Let us allow our own souls to become the master of our brains and use it for creative and peaceful purposes.

Qualification of a New Human

Full health is the most basic requirement for Hak Yoga and becoming a New Human. When I started the New Human movement I began by teaching calisthenics in a local park. However, even more important than a physically strong body is a correct relationship between the mind and the body.

The second requirement is social competence. You must be able to take care of your own basic needs before you can help others. Social competence is a combination of information and skills. You must acquire enough education and skill to be able to achieve the goals you have chosen for yourself.

The third requirement is a rich and stable emotional life. A New Human is able to exhibit a full range of emotions, and express them appropriately. When emotions have natural and healthy expression, you will be able to play well with others and with nature. A New Human is someone who plays well.

The forth requirement is to listen to your conscience. Conscience arises out of love of truth and desire to be truthful. Conscience is an expression of our perfect divinity within. Because of our conscience, we instinctively seek to return to a state of integrity when we have lost it.

The fifth requirement is to become spiritual. Spirituality does not refer to super-human ability to see and hear unusual things. Spirit is information. Energy vibrations communicate information. When our brain has access to energy vibrations of spirit, we are “inspired”. A person’s level of divinity depends on the spiritual level of information he or she receives. To be divine is to receive and generate high quality information.

According to Prof. Ilchi Lee’s book our brain is open to all sorts of information and ideas. We choose what to accept and what to reject according to our habits and tastes. At the most basic level, it is a matter of the strength of our desire. From a bookstore full of countless types of books, we will base our selections on the strength of our desires. A spiritual person has a strong desire to benefit all of humankind, gathering and generating information toward that end. This is the life of a New Human, and the reason to develop a Power Brain.

Power Brain Training Process

The process of Brain Respiration covers everything from physical health and inner happiness to spiritual enlightenment and completion of the soul. These do not occur in a vacuum, nor should they. They are painstakingly cultivated and achieved in relationship with others, based on honesty, diligence, and responsibility. Therefore, the Power Brain training process will also help heal society.

Ilchi Lee says that Brain Respiration helps you to experience the true reality of yourself. The essence of the Brain Respiration educational system is not study in the ordinary sense of the word, but more a recovery of the senses. In Dahn Yoga the goal of Brain Respiration is to recover Yullyo, the natural rhythm of life that resides in humans and in all life. Yullyo is eternal life, light, sound, and vibration. I also call this Cosmic Energy (Chunjikiun) and Cosmic Mind (Chunjimaeum). Yullyo is the beating and pulsing reality ot all life. Brain Respiration is an experiential educational system that helps people to recover Yullyo, to establish harmonious relationship with each other and with nature, and ultimately, to become one with the grand harmony of Heaven, Earth, and Human. This is the essence of peace.
